Food Labeling Campaign Kickoff Meeting

9/20/2012

Food and Water Watch is launching the “Let Me Decide” campaign to require the labeling of genetically engineered (GE) foods in Florida . A Kickoff Meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, in Tampa.
When: Thursday, Sept 20th, 7:00-8:30pm
Where: Abby's Health and Nutrition, 14374 N. Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa, FL

We, as consumers, should have a choice whether or not to eat potentially harmful GE foods. We can make this happen this fall, but we need YOUR help!
.Do you have a right to know what’s in your food?

Our answer is yes. The problem is that we don’t know what’s in our food. Around 90 percent of corn and soy in America—which are key ingredients in most processed foods—is genetically engineered. There are no long term health studies to show these foods are safe to eat. And yet, big agribusinesses that develop these foods aren’t required to tell consumers what they’re eating.

The best way to learn more and get involved is to come to our Campaign Kickoff Meeting this Thursday night here in Tampa. We’ll be discussing ways to increase outreach in the community and planning the launch of the campaign. RSVP right away and bring a friend to:

We have a unique opportunity to introduce a bill to label genetically engineered foods this spring, but Tampa Rep. Janet Cruz needs to hear from us. If we build a groundswell of public support, she will be a champion on this issue and introduce a bill requiring GE foods to be labeled statewide. With enough pressure from people like us, we will win--and begin to move our food system toward local, sustainable, healthy production. We need your help right now.

So please join us on Thursday, September 20th at 7:00pm. We'll hear from inspiring people at Interfaith Power and Light, local environmental organizations, and community members from the region. You will learn how to make a real difference and become involved in this important campaign. Let's build a powerful community of people standing up and saying we have the right to know what's in our food!
