Recently Sierra Club hosted featured speaker Terry Catherine Fortner. Ms. Fortner's family members settled Caladesi Island, just off Dunedin in the late 1800's. She showed photos and described life on the Island at the turn of the century and through the 20's and 30's, beginning with her great grandfather Henry Scharrer and the little girl he raised alone on the island after his wife's early passing. It's all described beautifully by Terry's grandmother, Myrtle Scharrer Betz, who was the little girl, in writing and with photos in her excellent biography about those times, "Yesteryear, I Lived in Paradise," now in it's fourth printing.
