Take Action

On March 3rd, the Florida state legislature opened debate on an important clean energy rule, known as a Renewable Electricity Standard (RES) or a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS).  An RPS is an important component of a comprehensive plan to reduce global warming pollution, because it requires utility companies to generate a specific amount of clean electricity from renewable sources.

Florida is poised to move forward with an ambitious renewable energy plan, but utility lobbyists are trying to undermine the plan's strength! They want nuclear power to qualify as a "renewable" source of energy.

Take action to protect Florida's clean energy future!  Ask Governor Crist, your state senator, and  your state representative to keep nuclear power out of our clean energy plan!

The utility industry is aggressively lobbying the Legislature to allow nuclear power as an eligible resource in meeting the target of 20% renewable energy.  This self-interested utility proposal, labeled as a "clean energy portfolio standard," is unprecedented.

No other state permits utilities to use nuclear energy to meet renewable energy goals.  Nuclear energy is a prohibitively expensive energy source that provides little long-term job creation.  It has no place in a policy intended to promote renewable energy!

We need 1,000's of Floridians to take action to protect our state's clean energy future.  Ask state leaders to keep nuclear power out of our clean energy plan today!

Sincerely,
