Lucy Peak

Ben led 6 of us on another full moon backpack-this backpack was the first for Lucy and also her first co-leader outing and joining us ‘regulars’ was Clark who was visiting from Delaware.

The weather was backpack perfect; sunny skies, mid 70’s and a wonderful mild breeze.

The hike into Bee Island was about 5 ¼ miles. We stopped about half way and had our lunch break in a clearing by a small creek. Upon reaching our camping area, we all set up our individual campsites. We had 2 group camping areas reserved for us so we were able to spread out very nicely. That made it nice and roomy and especially nice when night time comes around and the snorers of the bunch-won’t mention any names-really like to saw the logs in the night.

After setting up camp we all headed off to our individual pursuits-either reading/napping, chatting or taking a small hike in the area.

After dinner-yes Ben we would have woke you up -we were not allowed to have an open campfire since it has been so dry out—so we improvised and had a couple candle lanterns and some taper candles-it worked out great-so us pyros were not deprived of our much NEEDED campfire.

Daybreak brought us a chilly 52’ but it quickly warmed up and got pleasantly warm as the day progressed. We broke camp and bid a fond farewell to Pam and Bob who took the shorter route back to the cars. Ben led the remaining 4 of us on a 5 ½ mile hike going to another primitive camping area where we took our lunch break. The rest of the walk out was mainly through prairie grassy areas and the breeze and sunshine felt wonderful.

Arriving back to the cars-we parted ways with our new friend Clark and then headed back north over the sunshine skyway bridge and the end to our outing.

Another great hike Ben! Thanks!
