We visited the many springs along the Santa Fe River, as we paddled from Hwy. 27 N in High Springs to S.R. 47 S in Ft. White on Sept. 26. This ten mile section of the Santa Fe River has the most springs of any river in Florida, along with undeveloped shorelines and loads of turtles. We learned how fragile these springs are and what is threatening them. The gentle downstream current, along with a swim and picnic lunch stop at Rum Island on a North Florida fall day, made this trip pleasurable for everyone.
