Take an outing with the Northeast Florida Group

Looking for upcoming outings? Check our group calendar for local outings, or visit the Florida Chapter website for a list of outings throughout the state.

Sierra Club outings have always been an integral part of the Club's activities. With roots in the wilderness of North America, the outings activities of the club have grown over the years into effective means of enjoying our natural surroundings.

Your local Northeast Florida Group leads all kinds of outings into the outdoors. We have day trips, overnight camping trips, canoe and kayak tours, service trips... the list goes on and on! These journeys are made possible through our volunteer outing leaders.

When you get the itch to get outdoors, join us! Sierra Club Outings are generally free; participants are only required to pay any vendor fees that may be involved (canoe rentals or state park entrance fees, for example). Children under 18 are encouraged to participate with an adult. A complete list of upcoming outings is available on our Northeast Florida Group calendar, or visit the Florida Chapter website for a list of outings throughout the state. All participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver

Unless otherwise noted, reservations are appreciated but not required. Most day trips require no advance reservation and are almost never canceled, rain or shine.

Outings Leaders Always Needed

If you enjoy the outdoors, believe in the work that the Sierra Club is doing, and would like to share your interests with others, please consider becoming an outings leader. Leading just one or two outings a year makes a big difference to our members. We're all volunteers, and you can lead as many or as few trips as fit into your schedule. Our outings can be as simple as walking the trails at the University of North Florida, or as complex as a multi-day canoe run down the Suwannee River -- it's up to you.

Outings leaders are required to have CPR and First Aid certification. Fees for courses are minimal and will be reimbursed after you have led two outings. For more information, contact Brian Paradise @ bgparadise@comcast.net

Paddling Juniper Springs
Juniper Springs is a favorite canoe run in north-central Florida. Read one account of a lovely September paddle on this seven-mile canoe run.
