Promote Smart Energy Use and Stop Global Warming
Conserve Energy in Your Daily LifeWe have the technology today to implement real energy solutions that will move our country forward into a brighter energy future. There are simple things you can do around your home that will make a difference. Read our own Janet Stanko's column in the Florida-Times Union, Energy Conservation in the Home. You can also look for the Cool Home tips in the Featured Articles below.
The Northeast Florida Group of the Sierra Club works with the Jacksonville Electric Authority on their Clean (Green) Power program. In 1999, JEA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sierra Club and the American Lung Association of Florida that details a commitment to generate at least 7.5 percent of our electric capacity from clean and green energy sources by 2015. Learn more about JEA's Clean Power program.
What's your Carbon Footprint?
There are many on-line carbon footprint calculators. Try this one that was featured at our April-08 Jacksonville General Meeting, the Clearwater Carbon Calculator (an Excel worksheet). You'll need to collect some data about your family's activities--make some estimates if need be--then you can consider the results and make some changes. Tell other people about what you discover. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle--AND eat local food! If you would recommend additions to our community references, please share with us your advice. Further, become part of the Jacksonville Carbon Neutral Initiative (JCNI).
Our Northeast Florida Energy Future
We have embarked on a quest--to develop a vision of our community's energy future. We meet in circles of interest as part of our Cool Cities campaign commitment. Help us draw the map and learn about our prospective story by getting involved with our campaign. See the following links to learn the facts about global warming and how they relate to our local environment.
Read our white paper about Energy and Global Warming (also see documentation related to this paper). You can also download this information in a trifold brochure format. (All documents in PDF format).
