Volunteer with Inner City Outings

ICO leaders are experienced, trained Sierra Club volunteers.  Leaders are selected based on demonstrated leadership abilities and are all required to undergo screening and background checks before working directly with youth.  They are certified in CPR, first aid and receive additional training through workshops and seminars in group leadership, team building and wilderness skills.  Volunteers must also complete application, skills list and sign the ICO Code of Ethics (see below).

Most ICO leaders and volunteers are professionals from the age of 21 years and up, enjoy working with youth, have an adventurous spirit, and enjoy just relaxing and watching for wildlife or a sunset.  Volunteers can participate in the ICO program in many ways.  Obviously the most enjoyable is to assist with the outings and mentor children.  However, we also need volunteers who may be able to help with administrative tasks, like fund raising, publicity, teaching environmental education to both the adult volunteers and children, secretarial duties, equipment upkeep and finances.

The vital role played by volunteers cannot be overemphasized.  ICO has no paid staff.
