Take that next step with your Sierra Club

1, 2008

Dear Fellow Sierrans:

Thank you for your support! Your membership is an important statement - your continued participation is really appreciated. Now I ask you to consider what’s next.

The Sierra Club IS its members, and its impact - in our community, in our state, on our planet - is a result of its members actions and continuing dialog with people around us. Whether you come to monthly meetings, or study what’s all this about climate change and energy, or help introduce to new friends on Sierra Club outings the joys of the wild places in our neighborhood or in those wondrous remote places we barely understand (but find so awesome), or stand up at a city council or legal hearing and share your scientific knowledge and heartfelt views - no matter your chosen role, would you consider taking one more step? Would you consider stretching to the next level of involvement? Our Sierra Club Northeast Florida Group needs more folks to help do our work, to help carry the green flag. You can learn a lot (in areas you might never have thought could be so interesting), you can learn new skills, and meet really engaging people (whether kindred spirits or, at least on first encounter, opponents).

Outings need leaders (we’ll show you how easy it is), kids in our town need environmental education events (their enthusiasm is infectious), the Conservation Committee needs project help (for habitat protection, water quality or local gardening), the Executive Committee needs some organization and planning folk. I’ve found many of my close friends in the Sierra Club. I get to cavort with folks older than me and younger than me, so I get to learn a lot and there’s lots of vim and vigor. You, too, can enjoy this experience.

To accomplish all we should and to pursue the Sierra Club mission, we need you. Please volunteer for an event, try to get involved with a committee, consider joining ExCom. Take that next step.

Sincerely,
Tom Larson, Group Chair
