Mandarin History Tour

Oct 29, 2011
Saturday at 10 a.m.

Walk about two miles beneath the Great Live Oaks along scenic Mandarin Road. Meet at the Walter Jones Historical Park for a tour of the museum and 1875 homestead and farmhouse on the St. Johns River led by museum docents.
Visit the Mandarin Cemetery and the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, a congregation started as a Bible study group with Professor Calvin E. Stowe and his wife, Harriet Beecher Stowe. We proceed to the 1872 Mandarin Community Club, founded by the famous author, and tour the 1911 Mandarin Store and Post Office.
We return to the park for an optional picnic. Bring water, snacks and lunch.
Tour cost: $10 each, payable that day. Estimated time: 2.5-3 hours.
The park and post office are handicapped accessible. However, we walk along the shoulder of Mandarin Road. The road in the cemetery is sandy.
Cancelled if heavy rain.
