General Meeting, Ponte Vedra Beach: Sustainable Food International
Mar 7, 2011
SHI has worked with families in rural farming communities in Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama since 1997. Using organic vegetable gardens, wood-conserving stoves, biogas digesters and a host of other projects, SHIs local field trainers work together with families, individuals and communities to preserve our planets tropical forests while overcoming poverty. Joy Urban, a supporter and volunteer for SHI, will give an overview of their work and their Small World Service Tours.
Joys passion for the outdoors was planted by her parents who took her fishing, wild flowering and walking in the woods starting at the age of two. As a teacher in northern NH, she took her students on hiking, canoeing and cross-country ski trips through the White Mountain National Forest. She and her husband, Steve, have bird watched and hiked in Panama, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. Theyve seen the devastation caused by slash and burn farming and its one reason why they support Sustainable Harvest Internationals work to reverse this trend.
Everyone is welcome (including children)! Snacks will be provided, but bring your own drink.
