General Program, Jacksonville: Inner City Outings

Oct 12, 2009
Monday 7:00pm

Our general meeting will highlight the group’s Inner City Outings Program with leader Claudia Germano and its young participants from West Jacksonville Elementary School. This program takes youth from urban areas to wilderness areas.

In Jacksonville and around the country, dedicated ICO volunteers take youth who would not otherwise have access to the outdoor to the beach, Ichitucknee and many other wilderness excursions. Many of these youth have never been outside of their neighborhoods, let alone natural places around them. Participants in our group also perform clean- ups along the St Johns River in memory of one of their former classmate.

Many ICO participants credit the program with helping them succeed in school and work toward personal goals. With their knowledge and appreciation of nature, they will also be more likely to support the value of wild places when they become the leaders of the future.

Come hear about this valuable program and experiences from the students.
