Meeting General Program, Ponte Vedra: Manatees
When:
Jun 1, 2009
Monday
6:30 pm
Details:
Manatees are on the endangered species list. Their numbers have been increasing, but in 2008, a record number of infant Manatees died, raising the question of their continued survival. We will find out about the successes and issues surrounding these gentle “sea cows” from Dr Gerald Pinto, Associate Research Scientist at Jacksonville University. Dr. Pinto helped develop and implement the state approved Manatee Protection Plan for Duval and Clay Counties. He also has an interest in research on the impact of freshwater withdrawals, sea level rise, and the impact of harbor deepening effects on our own St. Johns River.
