Susan Reske of Greater Charlotte Harbor Wins National Sierra Club Award
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Susan Reske who is the first chair of the Greater Charlotte Harbor Sierra Club, Florida Chapter has been awarded a Special Achievement Award from the National Sierra Club. Under Sue's leadership, a brand new Sierra Club was born into a whirlwind of critical issues. In less than 2 years, Sue has established Sierra Club as an essential voice at the table in government issues, committees and negotiations.
Under Sue's leadership, the Grater Charlotte Harbor Group has been involved in County Comprehensive Plan revisions, ordinances on density and rock mining, phosphate mining challenges, water supply, water quality, dredging in Florida's Aquatic Preserves, the Peace River Cumulative Impact Study and a challenge to the development of Babcock Ranch resulting in 76,000 acres in preservation. The group activities have included an array of activities in the community such as festivals, parades, county advisory committee, political endorsements, stakeholder meetings, charettes, and success with a new Environmental Lands Referendum.
