Wed.
Sept 3
7:30pm
The Broward Sierra Club meeting at the Anne Kolb Nature Center will be held in conjunction with the Summer Sea Turtle release program run by Anne Kolb.
We will meet for announcements and committee reports at 7:30pm (doors open at 7:00) in the main Exhibit Hall, rather than in the Mangrove Hall where we usually meet. After the reports, those who have pre-registered will join the Anne Kolb group in the Mangrove Hall for the Sea Turtle Program.
The program will begin at 8:00pm and feature a one-hour PowerPoint presentation and lecture touching on the following topics: species of turtles found in South Florida, habitat, breeding and nesting, identification of crawls and nests, conservation efforts, past exploitation, current management, and problems now facing sea turtles. There will be a release of hatchlings immediately following the program. Those in attendance will be given directions to the beach area the night of the program.
If you would like to participate in the program, please contact Joanne Howes, Parks Naturalist II, Anne Kolb Nature Center at 954-926-2410 x227 or <jhowes@broward.org>. It is necessary to register and pay the $5 fee in advance in order to reserve your space for the program. There is a limit of 50 people, so make sure to register early to reserve a spot.

Outings General Informantion

The Broward Group of the Sierra Club invites you to join our outings to beautiful and interesting natural areas with friendly and mutually supportive people. Most outings are geared for novices: all are open to the public on a space available basis. Outings rating system is as follows: "Easy" includes activities that the average healthy individual can do and which do not require any specific expertise or physical condition. "Moderate" includes activities that require some experience and better than average physical condition. "Strenuous" indicates activities that require both significant, specific outdoor experience and excellent physical condition.

Group size limits are set to preserve the areas we visit and the experience we seek. We follow the minimum impact motto "Take only pictures; leave only footprints". Please note that there are various risks and hazards including severe inclement weather and wild animals, which are inherent in many of the outings and activities we undertake.

By engaging in Sierra activities, you acknowledge that you have considered such risks and agree to assume personal responsibilities for your own safety and that of any minors with you; and you agree to hold harmless and free from blame the outings leader and Sierra Club, it's officers and members for any accidents, injury or illness which might be sustained from participation in Sierra Club activities. In order to participate on one of the Sierra Club's outings, you will need to sign a liability waiver. If you would like to read a copy of the waiver prior to the outing, please see http://www.sierraclub.org/outings/chapter/forms/ or call 415-977-5630.

While we encourage carpooling, participants should note that outings run from the trailhead or take-out and not from any local meeting place; and neither Sierra Club nor the leader is responsible for transportation to or from the outing.
