2009 Events and Activities

March 14, 2009
We participated in the St. Johns River Clean Up.  Our site is off Heckscher Drive, Haulover Creek, and is dedicated to Lakeith Myers, an ICO participant who died in 2005.  This site allows for all four sides of the bridge to be easily accessed and at low tide, provides a large area for clean up.

After the clean up we went to Little Talbot Island for a cook out and a hike.  We had a scavenger hunt using digital cameras instead of removing the items.  The high light was a deer skull found by Bill Reilly.  Jackie Simms’ science background was a real plus in showing the difference in different leaves and plants.  Other new leaders and volunteers who participated were Lisa Wright (provided brownies) and Jay Paulk.  Frances Reilly photographed our clean up progress.  Ross and Claudia Germano provided the food and transportation.

We participated in a Sierra Club event at Pumpkin Hill with the North Florida Land Trust.  We had a great time in this Timucuan Preserve area - eating, hiking, hanging out, and playing "predator & prey".
