Sierra Club Florida

Interim Conservation Advisory Team

The Interim Conservation Advisory Team has been created to advise the Sierra Club Florida Steering Committee on statewide conservation matters until we have developed a new process to coordinate conservation matters in Florida.

The members of the team are: Alan Farago, Rosalie Schaffer, Pat Kiesylis, Kathy Cantwell, Dwight Adams, Deb Swim, John Ryan. Brian Paradise is non-voting facilitator and steering committee liaison.

The CAT shall report directly to the SC-FL Steering Committee and will be charged to fulfill the following responsibilities:

  1. Identify emerging statewide and regional (i.e., multi-group) conservation issues;
  2. Recommend actions on conservation matters of statewide or regional importance to the SC-FL Steering Committee;
  3. As directed, draft conservation policy statements to be considered for adoption by the SC-FL Steering Committee. (Adoption of such policies may require Board of Directors approval.);
  4. Vet positions from Club stakeholders (e.g., group issue chairs) on existing and new statewide conservation issues and serve as the primary point of discussion for the development of consensus and possible policy;
  5. Coordinate with groups and individual volunteers on conservation concerns by providing information and guidance and responding to related requests for assistance;
  6. Coordinating with other environmental organizations where directed by the Steering Committee
  7. Coordinate with National Conservation Committees and help educate Club members about national conservation policies;
  8. Refer conservation matters to the four regional campaign steering committees (Red Tide, Energy, Sustainable Fisheries and Everglades) whenever a new issue fits within the charge for that committee; and
  9. Participate in the development of Sierra Club Florida’s long term conservation agenda setting process.
